Child killed in New Year’s Eve crash

The year 2022 came to a tragic end for a Fort Bragg girl killed in a single-vehicle crash on  Highway 20. The California Highway Patrol said the 9-year-old was riding in a 2022 Toyota Prius, driven by Miguel Lopes Armas, 36, of Corning, around 7 PM on Dec. 31, when for some unknown reason, Armas lost control of the vehicle. The CHP said the car veered off the road and overturned multiple times. The child, whose name has not been released, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. The crash occurred just west of Walnut Drive, west of Williams.
