County urges input on Broadband Map

The Federal Communications Commission has created a new map showing where high-speed service is – and is not – available across the country, and the need for accurate data has never been greater.

Consumers, state, local, tribal government entities, and other stakeholders can help verify or dispute the accuracy of the data shown on the map by filing challenges. An accurate map will help the FCC identify the unserved and underserved communities most in need of funding for high-speed internet infrastructure investments, county officials said in a news release.

“We encourage residents to review the FCC map and dispute inaccurate information as soon as possible,” said Colusa County Administrative Officer Wendy Tyler. “The level of support that we receive for broadband infrastructure funding depends solely on the accuracy of these maps.”

The State’s distribution of the $42.5 billion Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) federal infrastructure funding program will be based on the location service information found in the FCC map.

It is imperative that local communities review and challenge inaccurate information, Tyler said.
