A 66-year-old Colusa woman was struck and killed Sept. 29 as she was walking from the Colusa Casino. The California Highway Patrol said Zulema Garcia was struck by a 2004 Chevy Tahoe driven by Adres Melchoir, 55, of Colusa, who fled the scene following the collision.
Garcia was reportedly walking southbound on the east shoulder of State Route 45 shortly after 8 PM when she started to cross the highway and was struck in the southbound lane.
After leaving the scene of the collision, Melchoir was arrested at his place of residence on suspicion of hit and run resulting in injury or death. The CHP said it was unknown if alcohol was a factor in the collision, but that the incident is still under investigation. ■
