County to expand outreach on FEMA remapping

The Colusa County Board of Supervisors last week modified its contract with R&F Engineering to provide outreach to the community regarding the FEMA re-mapping process that will place the town of Princeton and other areas in a new flood zone.

The board increased compensation to the Roseville consultants, who focus on water and flood control projects, by $16,710, bringing the total contract to an amount not to exceed $41,710. The company plans to create clear and concise messages to the public about the remapping process, which officials said could cause a steep increase in the cost to property owners for flood insurance.

R&F plans to conduct at least four community meetings; provide at least one direct mailer to inform residents of the remapping process and notice of meetings; create one webpage specific to the program to provide the public with information; and develop at least two media releases, as well as coordinate with the media to provide background information.

Colusa County Public Works Director Michael Azevedo said the firm will provide other management tasks, will attend project-related meetings, monitor client and team communications, and review all project materials and reports.
