Smell tracking process approved

The Colusa City Council last week approved a process for tracking odors.

Colusa officials said strong smells have been a persistent problem for the citizens, prompting them to instruct staff to begin tracking and recording complaints.

The reported information will provide support information for the further development of mitigation measures with businesses that may be the source or contributing to the problem, said City Manager Jesse Cain.

Citizens can call City Hall at (530) 458-4941 to report any strong smells. At the time of call, city staff

will request the following information: name, address and phone number, time and date of incident, location where smell was detected, and whether identified smell is suspected to be cannabis, mushroom, or other.

If a call is made after hours, the city asks that all the information is provided in the phone message. A summary of all calls will be included in the monthly staff report which will be provided at city council meetings.

Officials said several businesses suspected of generating offending smells are currently working with city staff and council members to address and mitigate further incidents, the call report will help the City Council develop actions in respect to businesses that do not take the proper steps to mitigate smells. â–
