Colusa awarded state park grant

California State Parks has announced $4.6 million in grant funding to renovate aging infrastructure within seven California state parks managed by local jurisdictions, among them the Colusa Sacramento River State Recreation Area, which is managed by the City of Colusa.

The city will receive $642,950 to rehabilitate the septic system, dump stations, automatic pay machine, and turf renovation, and to replace the damaged boarding float, picnic, and campground features.

California Locally-Operated State Parks Program grants are funded by Proposition 68, which voters passed in 2018, authorizing $4 billion in general obligation bonds for state and local parks, environmental protection projects, water infrastructure, and flood protection.

“Investments in public outdoor spaces are investments in the health of those who use them,” stated State Parks Director Armando Quintero in a news release. “Congratulations to the grant recipients and thanks for taking care of California’s state parks for the enjoyment of all.”

The City of Colusa has operated the Colusa state park since 2011 after the California Department of Parks and Recreation announced its possible closure, along with 69 other state recreation areas, as a part of a two-year $33 million budget cutback. ■
