County approves cooperative agreement with Farmers Market

The Colusa County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a cooperative agreement with the California Department of Food and Agriculture for Certified Farmer’s Market Program services, effective July 1. This is an annual agreement with the California Department of Food and Agriculture for costs incurred for site inspections at Certified Farmers Markets and production sites, including investigatory work and follow-up inspections, officials said.

The Colusa County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office will receive maximum funds in the amount of $1,275 for the services performed, which include reviewing the Certified Farmers’ Market Certificates to ensure validity, and perform a visual inventory of all commodities on display and in the producer’s vehicle.

Scales will also be inspected to guarantee they are approved and sealed for use at the Certified Farmers’ Markets, officials said. The county will also verify operators are certified agricultural producers or producers of non-certifiable agricultural products. ■
