Reports – Colusa Police Dept. – May 2022

There were 349 calls for service for Colusa police officers in May with 33 agency assists, a slight increase from April, which was 347. The call volume continues to be lower than 2021, as there was a 20 percent decline.

According to Colusa Police Lt. Sara Martin, there were 10 in-custody arrests, as eight citations were issued in lieu of subjects being booked in jail. There was one domestic violence related arrest made, with three DUI related arrests made. There were 54 reports initiated with 47 being investigations.

Officers also initiated 141 traffic enforcement stops, and 44 citations were issued for various vehicle violations. There was one reportable traffic collision with injuries.

The Police Services Manager handled 64 calls for service, which doesn’t include telephone calls fielded by the office. In April, the patrol staff transitioned from 10-hour shifts to 12-hour shifts due a staffing shortage, Police Chief Josh Fitch said.

The Colusa Police Department is accepting applications for police officers, Fitch said.

The department and Colusa County District Attorney’s Office continue to investigate the March 2020 murder of Giovanny Alcaraz. The United States Marshal Service is attempting to locate the suspect, Christian Suarez, who is believed to have fled to Mexico. ■
