Primary ballots continue to trickle in

Election results are unofficial but a few more ballots have been counted since Election Day on June 7. With only 2,126 votes (21.1 percent) cast out of 10,071 registered voters, the June 7 election has lower turnout than usual for Colusa County. In 2014, 47.14 percent cast a ballot in the district primary, and 43.23 percent of voters in Colusa County cast a ballot in the statewide district primary election four years later in 2018.

Although results are unofficial, a Nov. 3 run-off is expected for District 1 Supervisor and is likely for County/Clerk, the only two local contested races.

Cristy Edwards remains in the lead to become Colusa County’s head election official with 928 votes out of 1,894 total votes cast, not quite the 50 percent plus one vote she needed to win the election outright. Edwards will likely face Amy Rennick-Schmidt, with 543 votes, in the Nov. 3 election. Amy Greenhalgh picked up 413 votes.

In the District 5 race, Janice Bell, with 390 votes, has a slight lead over Richard Selover, with 374 votes. The two top vote getters will face a run-off for the position in November.
Marilyn Acree received 132 votes.
