High speed pursuit lands woman three years in jail

A Yuba City woman was sentenced to more than four years in jail for leading Colusa police officers on a high speed and reckless pursuit in 2021 and other crimes.

Career criminal, Lori Jessica Fries, 49, was sentenced in Colusa County Superior Court on Monday.

Fries earlier pleaded no contest to evading a peace officer in an attempt to avoid arrest on a Sutter County bench warrant for identity theft.In addition to a 32-month sentence, Colusa County Superior Court Judge sentenced Fries to 16 consecutive months on the 2018 identity theft charge, a “strike” enhancement because of her prior convictions.

ries has a lengthy criminal history, particularly in her home county. She was convicted of possessing methamphetamine in 2009 and burglary in 2010, along with numerous traffic infractions dating back to the 1990s.

The Colusa Police Department had initiated a traffic stop around midnight on June 30, 2021 for a headlight and license plate violation, but Fries failed to yield.

She led officers on a pursuit at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

She was arrested in Yuba City just before 1 AM and booked into the Colusa County Jail on charges alleging evading a peace officer with willful disregard to public safety, vehicle equipment violations, driving without a license, failing to stop at a red light or stop sign, excessive speed, reckless driving, resisting a peace officer, providing false identification to a peace officer, and felony failure to appear in court.

Thompson also sentenced Fries, who has remained in custody without bail, to eight consecutive months for dissuading a witness from testifying in Sutter County.

Fries will receive credit for 481 days time served and earned, along with 33 days for time served and earned in Sutter County.

She will serve out the remainder of her sentence in the Colusa County Jail.

Fries was also ordered to pay fines and restitution to the woman whose identity was stolen. ■
