My trek to California has been a pleasant one.
The weather and the roads were great. I always enjoy staying in a hotel so the nights on the road trip were a treat as well.
Now safely in California, I’ve visited and reconnected with friends that are family. I will see more in the days ahead.
I’ve been staying the last few days with friends Steve and Sue at their hilltop home in Newcastle. They also have a wonderful guest house they have allowed me to stay in. It’s like being at a wonderful mountain cabin for a bit. It even comes with a black cat. That too is special. I’ve missed my Chloe kitty since her passing. A few days with “Poo” has been healing at best.
Today, I visited my adopted kids Tom and Ashley. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon. We went for lunch at a local winery. Sitting outside in that beautiful setting reminded me that there are still good things in California. It was a perfect afternoon.
I’m also reminded how very blessed I am to have brought these folks into my life so many years ago.
I think God gives us the people we need when we need them.
So, it was with me and Tommy. When we met, I had just lost my husband. Tommy’s mother had recently passed. Taking on the mother/son relationship just seemed natural. So, today when he introduced me to his friends, it was as his second mom. I like that. It did my heart good to know he still feels that way.
Tomorrow, I’ll head to the valley, where I’ll have a few more days to visit other old friends and family.
Life is most certainly good today. ■
