Sac Valley Museum planning string of events

Robert Tamayo performs Buddy’s Holly’s “Everyday,” at the Sacramento Valley Museum’s Karaoke Night on Friday.

Not very many people attended the Sacramento Valley Museum’s Karaoke Night on Friday, but the small gathering served as a kick-off to a host of activities in 2022 designed to raise awareness that the museum is home to – and available for – all kinds of community events, weddings, birthday parties, and celebrations.

The Museum will reopen to visitors on March 10, said Director Cindy Gobel, and a number of events are planned, including McAvoy Layne, who returns as Mark Twain.

“We’re pretty excited,” Gobel said.

Only a handful of singers braved the stage last week, including Williams High School teacher Robert Tomayo.

“I love karaoke,” Tomayo said. “I love the city and community of Williams, and I really love this museum. I love our community and I love being a part of it. It doesn’t really matter what it is, I just love putting myself out there.”

The museum has hosted several events in the past few months, including a comedy that starred Tomayo and a cast of five others.

Events are to raise money to help support the nonprofit, and also to maintain public interest in local history, officials said. The Sacramento Valley Museum is housed in the former Williams High School, located at 1491 E. St.

Layne’s performance on March 12, which will include wine and cheese, will have a $40 admission.

From March 14-19, the museum will host the annual Quilt Show. There is no admission to attend, but donations will be accepted.

On March 26, the Sacramento Valley Museum will host the Vintage Bridal Show, which will include refreshments and prizes for a $30 admission.

The museum will be open each Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, from 10 AM to 4 PM, from March 10 through October.

There is never a charge to explore the 16,000 square feet of exhibition space, which houses collections containing Sacramento Valley history from the mid-19th through the mid 20th century, but donations are accepted.
