Philip Martell passed away in the early morning of Jan. 29, 2022, at the age of 92.
Philip was born June 12, 1929, in Fort Yates, North Dakota, born to Jacob and Martha Martell. Though born in North Dakota, Philip grew up near La Grande, CA in Merced County. At the age of 18, Philip took a summer job with Bank of America in Chowchilla, where he met and married Patsy Howard. Philip and Patsy were married in 1952 and stayed together 48 loving years until Patsy passed away in 2000.
Philip and Patsy would move from Chowchilla to Mariposa, CA where he was very proud to become a member of the Masonic Lodge #24 and became a Worshipful Master. In 1959, they were blessed with a daughter (Triphena), and in 1961 a son (Howard).
After living in several different communities, the family moved to Colusa County in 1975, where Philip was an outstanding and active community member. For over 40 years he worked for Bank of America, and for nearly 45 years was active in the Community as the Williams City Manager, President of the Sacramento Valley Museum, creating the Williams Antique Show, coordinating Rubber Ducky Races, and any fundraisers he could help with. Philip also loved bowling, tennis and made great friends along the way. Don Manor was an especially great friend to Philip, they shared many good times and memories.
Philip is survived by his daughter Triphena (Paul) of Williams, son Howard (Joy) of Yuba City, granddaughter Anna (Drew), grandson Benjamin (Ana), grandchildren Jacob and Teegan, and great-grandchildren Zachary, Sophia, and Jason. Philip is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, first wife Patsy, and second wife Joyce.
Philip loved his community, his family, and life. Our family will always cherish the memories and love he gave us, he is missed dearly. A special thank you to Philip’s caregiver Rose for allowing him to live his last years at home.
Services for Philip will be determined at a later date. ■
