There are those tug-at-your-heart moments that do a grandma’s heart good.
Last night, I gave my grandson Bodhi a soft little “Jesus Loves Me” singing Teddy Bear. Watching his chubby baby hands reach for it, and then bring it into a hug, laying his little cheek on the bear’s head, was one of those moments. My eyes began to leak a little.
Last night, we gathered for a birthday dinner for Bodhi and his big brother Gage.
We are admittedly loud and joyful. Again, it did my heart good to sit back and enjoy the chaos of singing and laughing. Throw in that Bodhi has discovered the high pitch squeal he can produce, and it was complete.
When I was much younger, I visited a cousin while her kids and grandkids were all visiting. Like us, it was chaos. I remember she said she was just soaking in the joy of it all. I thought she was nuts! How could that be special?
Now, I get it.
I’ve come to realize we need to latch on to any time we have with our friends and family. Time goes faster than we realize. In a minute, it’s over.
Yesterday, my kids were young and little. They were collecting baseball cards, skateboarding, and hanging out with their friends. In no time at all, they now have kids themselves; And I’m old!
In a minute, all things change and the next chapter begins. I have learned to make the best of each chapter.
You get one shot at this life. Make the best of it.
Life is good today. ■
