Farmer killed in solo vehicle crash

A Live Oak man with strong ties to the Colusa farming community was killed Dec. 22 in a single vehicle collision on Butte Slough Road.

The California Highway Patrol said Christopher Steidlmayer, 58, was driving a 2020 GMC Sierra pick-up, eastbound on Butte Slough Road, just west of the Sutter County line, around 4:45 PM when he veered off the south side of the roadway and traveled down an embankment.

Steidlmayer, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, sustained fatal injuries when his pick-up crashed into a tree. The CHP said Steidlmayer was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, and he was pronounced dead at the scene

The crash remains under investigation.
