The Colusa Police Department is investigating a Tuesday afternoon shooting on Jay Street that sent one man to the hospital.
Colusa police officers, along with officials from the Colusa County Sheriff’s Department, District Attorney’s Office, and emergency personnel from the Colusa Fire Department responded to the scene within minutes, following a report that a resident in the 900 block of Jay Street allegedly fired his weapon in response to an altercation between other individuals that occurred just outside his home.
The shooting occurred at around 2:45 PM.
Colusa Police Lt. Sara Martin said that while the investigation is ongoing, Melvish Sharma, of Colusa, was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Colusa County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
The victim, whose name is being withheld, was transported by ground ambulance to Rideout Hospital, in Marysville. ■
