On Small Business Saturday, Nov. 27, we had the assistance of Troy Oliver to hang our masthead on the facade of the building. A small, ordinary task was symbolically enormous to us.
To those who’ve perused these pages in the past, have known that we’ve moved a lot.
This is a challenge that any business owner has when they do not own the building in which they occupy: we are at the mercy of landlords.
For now and hopefully for a very long time, your local newspaper, the Pioneer Review, occupies the historic Colusa Meat Co. building, at 430 Market St., in downtown Colusa. We’ve been here since June, and our office is quaint and suits our needs as a community newspaper. Most importantly, being downtown puts us at the center of life in the community.
The Pioneer Review is a small business, similar to the florist across the street, the auto repair shop on the corner, and the restaurant serving delicious fares. We are unequivocally local.
On the heels of Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment and thank our community for the opportunity to publish your local newspaper. I am thankful for the hard work and dedication Susan Meeker has put into her reports, and I am thankful for our advertisers and subscribers who have put their trust in this publication.
We are here to record the happenings of our community, journal matters of public interest, and to inform our citizens. No matter where our office is located, we’ll be here to inform, observe, and champion our community.
Thank you, Colusa County. ■
