Clearlake Man killed in head-on collision

A 57-year-old Lake County man was killed Sunday in a head-on collision on Highway 20.

The CHP said the crash occurred around 8 PM in the foothills of western Colusa County, east of Highway 16.

The Clearlake man was believed to be driving a 2014 Toyota Tacoma pickup in the westbound lane at a high rate of speed when he swerved over the solid yellow line and into the path of a Dodge Durango, driven by Jacob Funk, 27, of Orland, the CHP said.

Funk reportedly steered to the right but was unable to avoid the collision.

The CHP said the pickup driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Funk suffered a neck and back injury. His passenger Vicky Davis, 40, suffered major injuries, including a head contusion, the CHP said. Both were wearing seat belts.

Two children, ages 5 and 7, who were riding in safety seats inside Funks vehicle, had complaints of pain at the scene of the collision.

Davis, who had the most serious injuries, was airlifted to Kaiser Vacaville Hospital, while Funk and the two children were airlifted to UC Davis for treatment of moderate injuries.

The CHP said drugs or alcohol could be a possible factor in the collision. The drivers name had not been released by press time, pending notification of family. –
