River fire continues

Firefighters from Sacramento River Fire Protection and Colusa Fire Department were dispatched to Roberts Road in Colusa around 1 PM on Saturday, after a vegetation fire was rekindled from the original July 4 fire caused by fireworks. The fires have burned about 30 acres of riparian habitat, which has been made dry by ongoing drought. Limited access made it difficult for firefighters to control the blaze, officials said, which forced the evacuation of homes in the area after the fire jumped the levee. The fire burned late into the afternoon, with mutual aid needed from neighboring departments. The City of Colusas aerial fireworks display on Independence Day ignited two separate fires, although illegal fireworks have not been ruled out as a possible cause for the fire on the west side of the Sacramento River.
