Long-time Colusa Native Iola Isabelle Keil passed away at Enloe Medical Center on Monday, June 14, 2021, with family at her side.
Born November 20, 1926, to Gustav and Emma (Stites) Bruggman, she was the eleventh of thirteen children and liked to remind us she was six-minutes older than her twin Viola Belle. Iola attended school in Colusa, graduating from Colusa High School in 1945.
She married Rocky Correa and together had seven children; they were married for 26 years until Rockys passing in 1971. Iola was a weighmaster at SunSweet Prune plant for many years; she was a telephone operator for CP National and worked at I.G. Zumwalt for several years, where she met her second husband, Reiny Keil.
Iola was active in the Colusa chapter of the Native Daughters of the Golden West and was recently awarded her 25-year pin; she was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bingo, going shopping, and visiting with her neighbors. Up until recently, she could be found strolling around her apartment complex each morning, stopping to say Hi and catching up on the daily goings-on in the neighborhood.
At the time of her passing, Iola was survived by her children, Barbara Lee Bowden, Harold Correa (Linda), Roxan Munoz (Victor), Doug Correa (Andrea), Dennis Correa (Franny), Spyder Correa (Sue), and Sherri Bailey (Ray). She leaves behind 15 Grandchildren, 32 Great-Grandchildren, and 10 Great-Great Grandchildren, along with her caregiver Nancy Gordon and friend Shirley Chambers.
She was preceded in death by husbands Rocky Correa and Reiny Keil, her twin sister Viola Gaines, four additional sisters, and seven brothers.
A celebration of life for Iola will take place on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at 10 AM at the Holy Cross Cemetery 1731 Wescott Road, Colusa, California.
