COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Last week was the best of the season so far for the RedHawk girls’ tennis team as they outplayed Las Plumas 6-3 on Sept. 5, then went on to crush Corning two days later by a score of 8-1.
Facing the Thunderbirds on its home court, Colusa got wins from five singles players to carry them to victory.
No. 2 Savanna Rochette outlasted her opponent in a tiebreaker 6-3, 1-6, 10-4, while No. 3 Vianey Farias (6-3, 6-2), No. 4 Joanna Rodriguez (6-4, 6-1), No. 5 Ashley Perez (6-0, 6-0), and No. 6 Melanie Pinon all posted straight sets wins.
The duo of Perez and Janell Garcia picked up the only doubles win with a decisive 8-0 victory.
On the road in a rematch with Corning, a team it had previously beaten back on Aug. 24, the RedHawk ladder dropped just a single match in the contest. No. 1 Olivia Nair triumphed in a marathon 5-7, 6-4, 12-10 to get things started, while Rochette (6-0, 6-1), Farias (6-3, 6-3), Perez (6-0, 6-0), and Pinon (6-0, 6-1) had a much easier go of it.
Colusa swept the Cardinals in doubles, behind wins from partners Nair/Rochette (8-5), Farias/Rodriguez (8-4), along with Perez/Garcia (8-0) to conclude the preseason.
Sacramento Valley League play commenced for the RedHawks this week as they hosted Live Oak on Sept. 12, before traveling to Willows on Sept. 14.H
