Volleyball Roundup: Pierce Bears

Pierce’s Maggie Reyna tallied seven kills in the Bears’ win over Paradise on Sept. 5.
Pierce opened the Sacramento Valley League season with a 25-13, 25-14, 25-9 romp over Paradise, but could not build upon the momentum, suffering a 15-25, 16-25, 6-25 loss to the juggernaut Spartans in its second match last week.
Setters Jamie Figueroa and Magali Jauregui facilitated the attack against the Bobcats, finishing with 12 and 11 assists respectively, while Maggie Reyna converted on seven of her 12 kill attempts to top all hitters.
Macey Myers registered 20 digs and Gabby Sandoval made 11 in the win.
In Trowbridge against the Northern Section’s third ranked team, the Bears struggled on the attack where they were outhit 44–10 in kills by the Spartans but were kept busy on defense.
Myers again led the way, with 14 digs and 18 service receptions, while Sandoval had 12 digs to go along with 12 receptions.
This week Pierce (6-5, 1-1) had another tough task as it faced a very good Honker squad in Willows in its first match on Tuesday, then squeezed in a non-conference game with Williams on Wednesday, before hosting SVL foe Winters on Thursday.
