Williams girls basketball notches first MVL win

After dropping its first game last week 30-47 on the road in Hamilton City, the Yellowjackets bounced back in Chico to down CORE Butte 39-25.

Against Hamilton City on Jan. 17, the ‘Jackets were down just six in the fourth quarter, but the Braves found the range from distance, hitting four three-point shots to pull away.

Despite the loss, Coach Darren Robinson praised the play of Mia Rivera, whom he said “had her best game of the season, using some really nice post moves” to score a team high 16 points.

In Chico, against the Lynx on Jan. 20, Williams was down to just five players, but got a 14-point effort from Bri Jaime, who paved the way for the Yellowjackets to claim their first league victory.

Rivera had a dozen points on the night, while Ashley Garcia pitched in with seven.
The ‘Jackets (3-10, 1-3) looked to build on their momentum when they hosted Biggs on Tuesday before closing out the week at home on Friday against Los Molinos.■
