Colusa Ducks finish strong despite challenges

After a slight delay in the sporting clay season because of Assembly bill 2571, the prohibition of marketing or advertising firearm-related products to minor, the Colusa Ducks Started the season Oct. 9, at Raahauges in Dunnigan.

In the young adult division, Devin Wurm (89/100) took first place. Jayce Lee (92/100) took first place, with Robert Shadley (91/100) taking second in the IA division. The IE division saw Caleb Manhart (90/100) took first place.

The second series shoot was held on Oct. 23, at Quail Point in Zamora. Landon Barrett (87/100) took first place, Robert Shadley (79/100) took second, and Jayce Lee (72/100) took fourth place in the IA division. Caleb Manhart (64/100) took second place in the IE division.

The third series shoot was held on Oct. 30, at Quail Point in Zamora. Jayce Lee (88/100) took first place, Robert Shadley (83/100) took fourth place, and Landon Barrett (83/100) took fifth place. Caleb Manhart (84/100) took second place in the IE division.

The state tournament was held on Nov. 6, at Quail Point in Zamora. Robert Shadly (90/100) took first place, Jayce Lee (88/100) took second place, and Landon Barrett (81/100) took fifth place. Caleb Manhart (80/100) took second place in the IE division. Grayson Hardwick, David Wurm, and Tanner Hansen were awarded third place squad award in Varsity. Robert Shadley, Jayce Lee, and Landon Barrett, were awarded first place squad ward in the IA division. Caleb Manart, Max Reading, Kason Garramore were awarded second place squad award in the IA division.

Team awards included Series High 3 Jr Club, first place; state shoot high 3 varsity, third place; and the state shoot jr club high 3, first place.

“Assembly bill 2571 definitely affected the start to the season, but the team finished the year strong despite having a smaller team than in years past,” said Bruce Hardwick, head coach.

The Ducks will resume competing in February, when the trap and skeet season starts.
