Raenne passed peacefully on October 31, 2023 at the age of 93.
Born in Arbuckle to Ray and Thelma Hoover of Dunnigan, California on November 20, 1929. She was an only child but never without companionship with various dogs, cats (Jack Peasly) and of course her pet chicken. Her elementary education was received at the one-room Wildwood School only a mile from her home in Yolo County. She attended Pierce High School where she met the love of her life, Asa John Kalfsbeek III, aka Johnny K. They were together living in Arbuckle for over 50 years until he passed in 1998. After giving birth to their 3 daughters, Christy Scofield, Lisa Gross (Jerry), Jane Kalfsbeek, Johnny felt that he still needed a son to complete the family. So after the Christmas gift of a mink cape to Raenne, ten months later Asa John Kalfsbeek IV, aka Jake (Terry), was brought into this world.
As a farmer’s wife she was always busy doing the bookkeeping but also managed to mow the lawn, play golf and have the monthly bridge game with her girlfriends. Raenne loved playing the organ or piano and singing. I’m sure her neighbors could attest to it. She enjoyed traveling, especially the annual trips that Johnny and she took with their friends Fred and Beverly Durst. Raenne continued to travel with family and friends, including adventures to Europe and Alaskan cruises with Linda Dami as well as road trips in the Dunnigan Hills with Jake. In her later years, she would look forward to her daily trips to the Arbuckle Golf Club to attend the 4 O’Clock Club where a friendly game of dice determined the drink sponsor. There could also be a quick trip to Tex’s Tavern to check on the local social scene.
She always appreciated the visits from her grandchildren, Bart Scofield
(Diann), Derek Scofield (May), Asa Kalfsbeek (Mary), Joseph Kalfsbeek (Cindy), Jared “JJ” Gross (Loni) and Lindsey Caillier (David). It was even better when they were accompanied by one of the thirteen great grandchildren or six great great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at the Arbuckle Cemetery on Friday, November 10 at 11:00 am with reception to follow at the Arbuckle Golf Club. In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that donation be made to the Arbuckle Fire Department in her name. P.O. Box 272, Arbuckle, CA. 95912
