Gayle Kalfsbeek

Gayle Frances Kalfsbeek, born November 1, 1939, to Charles and Ruth Kalfsbeek, passed away November 9, 2022, in Woodland, California, after a lengthy illness. Gayle spent most of her life in the College City -Arbuckle area. Gayle attended the one room Johns Elementary School(always her claim to fame), graduated from Pierce Joint High School, and received her undergraduate degree from UCD. She went on to get a secondary teaching credential in history from San Francisco State, following her her mother’s footsteps.  Her teaching career led her to Lake Tahoe followed by traveling and teaching in Australia for one year. She returned to Colusa County and taught at Maxwell High School for another year. Gayle spent the remainder of her career at Pierce High School in Arbuckle, California as the librarian. She was best known by her students as “Ms. K.” Gayle enjoyed traveling, reading books, technology, her two dachshunds and spending time with family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ruth Kalfsbeek, a brother Peter Kalfsbeek, two sisters, Mary Kae (Kalfsbeek) Bedart and Linda Kalfsbeek and two nephews, John Bedart and Charles Kalfsbeek. She is survived by her brother, James Kalfsbeek, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.

A rosary will take place December 13, 2022, at McNary-Moore Chapel at 7 PM. Mass will be held on December 14, 2022, at 10 AM at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Arbuckle, California.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Arbuckle/College City Fire Department in Gayle’s name.
