COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Colusa Industrial Properties will offer public tours in February and March of a new USDA and CDFA certified meat processing facility under development at the Colusa Industrial Park.
Tours are scheduled from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 27 and March 30, 2026, at the project site.
The facility will process cattle, swine, sheep and goats and is intended to expand opportunities for small and mid-sized producers by filling a regional gap in USDA-certified processing.
The project’s first phase is approximately 80 percent complete, with construction expected to be completed in February.
Phase one includes a 3,600 square foot slaughter facility and a 1,000 square foot cold storage area. Additional phases will expand processing capacity and related services as the project advances.
The facility is intended to address the shortage of modern, energy-efficient, full-service meat processing facilities in Northern California that meet both federal and state certification standards. Project leaders say the facility will support local agriculture and strengthen the regional food system.
Andy Lucas, Community Development Services, said the facility is designed to create new economic opportunities while reducing the distance producers must travel for certified processing services.
Community Development Services is leading community engagement for the project, working with trusted leaders in Muslim, Sikh, Hmong and Latinx communities across Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba counties. The outreach effort connects producers and consumers with the project team and helps inform future facility planning and operations.
Funding for the project includes grant support through the California Jobs First program and the We Prosper Together regional collaborative, which represents eight counties and includes more than 130 organizations and hundreds of community leaders and residents. The funding supports both facility construction and ongoing community engagement efforts.
Project organizers said the tours are intended to provide transparency, gather feedback, and build awareness as construction nears completion.
