Joan “Joni” Moore Geyer • 4/6/1961 – 10/20/2024

Joan Moore Geyer was a vibrant force of nature who touched the lives of everyone she met. An animal lover, devoted helper, and enthusiastic Diet Coke and candy connoisseur, she brought spunk and laughter to every gathering. Joni had a remarkable ability to brighten any room with her infectious spirit and warm smile.
Born in Woodland, California, and raised in Grimes, Joni was the daughter of Katherine Atran Moore and the late Arlan “Gus” Moore. She was the cherished sister of Pete Moore and Mary (Moore) Yacavace, and she was preceded in death by her brother, Andrew Moore. From a young age, Joni showed a deep love for animals, spending countless hours outdoors with her horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, and birds. She was also involved in 4-H where she gained a love for sewing, quilting, baking, and other home economic skills.
Joni graduated from Pierce High School in 1979. Her career began as a counselor and migrant education teacher at Pierce High School in the early 1980s. She later pursued her dream of helping others by earning her nursing degree from Sacramento State in 1992. She then worked as an RN at Rideout Emergency Center and Woodland Surgery Center for over a decade.
In 1981, Joni married her loving husband, Michael Geyer, and together they created a home in Arbuckle, California, filled with laughter and warmth. She was a proud mother to August “Gus” Geyer (Blake Geyer), Maggie Geyer Ruiz (Jose “Chuy” Ruiz), and Ellian “Ellie” Geyer. Joni’s heart overflowed with love for her grandchildren—Ava Ruiz, Joseph Ruiz, Michael Ruiz, Cora Geyer, and Jade Geyer. She cherished every moment spent celebrating birthdays, holidays, and family traditions, whether at their cozy cabin in LaPorte or during family summer trips to Santa Cruz.
A true pioneer of farmhouse-style decor long before it became a trend, Joni had a green thumb and loved creating a little farm at home, both indoors and out. She enjoyed baking delicious pies and desserts, often treating her family and friends to her creations. Her persistent sweet tooth, however, meant she always kept a stash of treats just for herself! With a flair for sewing and beading jewelry, Joni’s creativity knew no bounds. Her love for shopping was unmatched, and she always delighted in spoiling her loved ones with thoughtful gifts.
Joni’s legacy is one of kindness and generosity. She selflessly offered her help to anyone in need, often welcoming friends and extended family into her home and treating them as her own. Whether guiding them through life’s major milestones or sharing a family vacation, Joni’s nurturing spirit made a lasting impact on all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral services. Instead, her family invites those who wish to honor Joni’s memory to make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, Sutter Health (Hospice), or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Though she is no longer with us, Joni’s spirit lives on in the countless memories and the love she shared with all of us. Her laughter, kindness, and unwavering support will be dearly missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire us all.
