Calvin Hugh Word, born on April 21, 1943, at Inspirational Hospital in Miami, Arizona to Homer Hugh Word and Ruth Starling Word, peacefully departed this life to be with His Lord and Savior October 1, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and faith. He served honorably in the Marine Corps as a radio operator, being discharged on November 27, 1967. His dedication to service extended beyond the military; Calvin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather (Poppy), brother, and friend.
On August 14, 1964, Calvin married Inetta Louise Dowden, and together they built a loving family. A man of deep faith, he cherished his relationship with Jesus and instilled those values in his loved ones. Calvin found great joy in the outdoors, where he spent countless hours hunting and fishing, often teaching his loved ones the value of patience and the thrill of the catch.
Calvin was also known for helping others, whether through electrical work, changing a tire, sharing produce from his garden, or offering financial support—his generosity knew no bounds. He worked as a troubleman for Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) for over 26 years, where he was respected for his hard work and commitment to his community.
Calvin leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Inetta Word; daughter Wendy McGrew and her husband Michael; son Calvin Word II and his wife Jenni; grandchildren Megan (McGrew) Beverly and her husband Blake, Abigail (McGrew) Terra and her husband Brad, Cambria Word; and great-granddaughter Beverly Terra. Brothers Billy Word, Jerry Word, Terry Word and many beloved nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Calvin is now dancing on the streets of gold in Heaven praising God and watching over his family. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his unwavering faith, kindness, and the joy he brought to all who knew him.
