Viking warriors come to Colusa

Kids enjoy nerf games on Friday after spending the week at Viking Warrior Camp, an action-packed program of Viking Woodworks & Learning Center.

Viking Woodworks & Learning Center came to Colusa last week to host their Viking Warrior Camp for ages 5-12. The kids completed “American Ninja Warrior” styled courses full of fun, but challenging obstacles that they had to progress through.

There were also numerous nerf wars with different games such as “Protect the President” and “Capture the Flag” overflowing with laughter, smiles, and calls of “I got you!” or “I found another bullet!”

Colusa’s participants in the action-packed program learned a variety of skills revolving around meeting new people and trying new things, while also exploring new adventures and being able to get out of the house during the summer.

“The kids have fun and I have a lot of fun too,” instructor Jeff Jacobson said. “It’s been great sharing these camps. I love coming to Colusa; it’s an awesome place to be.”

Viking Woodworks & Learning Center is a family business headed by Jeff and Tracy Jacobson, whose kids are involved in the events as well. The business is based in Yuba City.

The Learning Center creates their props themselves by building a climbing wall, designing Tumblers as prizes, and even creating shirts for the center.

“Everyone in the family has a role, and we wouldn’t be able to put on the camps without anyone,” Jacobson shared.

Many kids shared how ‘cool’ and “fun” the Viking Warrior Camp was.

The camp ended Friday with kids’ smiling faces and memories made.

Viking Woodworks & Learning Center will hold two more camps this summer in Colusa. The first will be Mad Science and Forensics, which will be held July 11-15 from 9 AM until noon.

The second will be Art Explosion August 8-12 from 9 AM until noon.

Both camps will be for children ages 5-12 and are $125 per child. The camps are held at the Colusa Scout Cabin.

Also, there will be an Archery Clinic this summer for two different age groups where youth 18 and under can learn the basics or hone the skill. This is a three-day clinic. The Archery Clinic for ages 7-11 will be held August 2-4 from 9-10:30 AM. The clinic for ages 12-18 will also be on August 2-4, but from 10:30 AM until noon. The session cost for ages 7-11 is $12 and for ages 12-18, it is $15.

Colusa Recreation Department’s goal is to keep kids active and have opportunities for lots of fun this summer, officials said.

Registration can be made online at the City of Colusa’s website or in person at City Hall, 425 Webster St.■
