Maxwell graduate closer to professional baseball career

A 2020 Maxwell High School graduate is one step closer to making his goal of playing professional baseball a reality this summer.

Chase Wells, 20, has signed with the Sante Fe Fuego.

The Santa Fe Fuego is a professional baseball team based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The team is a member of the Pecos League, an independent baseball team.

Wells signed back in January of this year and leaves for his next step in the game this Saturday.

“Leaving family for months, my hometown, and putting yourself in a new environment is a sacrifice, but one I am willing to endure for the exposure,” Wells said. “I am excited to see where my path will lead for my future in baseball.”

Wells participated in summer league during the 2021 season in Myrtle Beach, S.S. after Covid put his college plans on hold. When the Covid vaccine became mandatory to play, Wells declined, but kept pushing on helping with local camps and little league. He also spent some time helping the Maxwell Panthers baseball team during practice.

“I will be the youngest member on the team in Santa Fe, but I am ready to see where this next journey will take me,” Wells added. “So many have contributed to my dream to continue to play ball and for that I am forever grateful.”

Spring training will start May 23 with the first game of the 2022 season starting in June, 2022. ■
