Julie Ellersick, 95, of Maxwell, CA passed away April 30, 2022 in the Valley West care home in Williams, CA after a brief illness. In her finally days, she was surrounded by her loving family and passed away peacefully, fully ready to go home to Heaven.
Julie was born May 22, 1926 in Delevan, CA and lived her whole life in Colusa County. She was the youngest of two children, and the only daughter of her parents Alfons and Maria Mayer. After graduating from Williams High School in 1944, Julie began working at Bank of America in Williams as a teller. This was to be the beginning of her 50-year career in banking, during which time she became the assistant vice president and manager of the Crocker National Bank in Maxwell. Over the years, Julie helped many within the Maxwell community, from FFA members to farmers working to protect their hard earn yields.
Regarded by many of her customers as the “original overdraft protection” Julie made sure the people within the tight knit community were well served. After retiring from the bank, she continued working into her early 90’s as a tax preparer and free-lance bookkeeper, always with a smile on her face.
In her personal life, Julie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She met and married her husband, Dean Ellersick, in 1951 and they enjoyed 51 years of marriage together. Her children, Steve, Dan, and Deana, remember their mom as generous and warm. During their many cross-country road trips to Dean’s childhood home in Nebraska, Julie also showed ample amounts of her characteristic patience and good humor. For her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she was the quintessential grandma, always keeping her cookie jar fully stocked and her door open.
Also, an avid sports enthusiast, Julie remained a loyal fan to the San Francisco Giants and Sacramento Kings throughout her life. Although baseball was her favorite, she kept an eye on all events in the sporting world and was more reliable than Sports Center if you needed to know anything from the latest trades to last night’s scores.
She is survived by her 3 children, Steve (Beverly), Dan (Gail), and Deana (Ellersick) Fleming, her 6 grandchildren, Josh Ellersick, Jed (Lori) Ellersick, Russell (Teryn) Ellersick, Ryan (Stephanie) Ellersick, Candace Ellersick, and Olivia (Taylor) Prinz, and her 9 great-grandchildren, Claira, Abby, Emilia, Eli, Liam, Aiden, Julia, Jack, and Isla Ellersick.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfons and Maria Mayer, her brother, Andrew Mayer, her husband, Dean Ellersick, and her son-in-law, Mike Fleming.
Services are open to the public and will be conducted on June 11, at the Maxwell United Methodist Church, 75 California St. Maxwell, CA 95955, at 11 AM. There will be a reception to follow in the dining hall with refreshments.
If you would like to make a donation in Julie’s memory, we request they be made to the Williams Museum (which is her former high school) or the Maxwell Fire Department. ■
