On March 11, 2022, Gene Anthony Lanouette, of Chico passed peacefully the presence of family and friends at the age of 80. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Geno, knew he fit 10,000 lifetimes into his one. Gene was born on Feb. 28, 1942, in Yuba City to Gene and Josephine Lanouette. He spent his childhood in Colusa California, graduating in 1959 from Colusa High School. He attended and played baseball at Yuba College, then transferred to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and graduated in 1966 with a degree in crop science. His career started with Ciba-Geigy in Bakersfield, CA representing their agricultural division. In the mid-eighty’s the family relocated to Chico, CA where he began a career in retail with Nevada Bob’s Golf and Tennis and later in Real Estate. Gene was an active member of the Chico Rotary Club for 16 years. Gene’s was an avid fan of the SF Giants, 49ers and Warriors. He loved golf, tennis, sailing, skiing, pickle ball, barbecuing, and socializing. Gene had a passion for life that was contagious.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rachelle, daughters Kristie Lanouette and Lori Hawkins, son-in-law, Keith Hawkins, grandchildren, Kambria, Jaylen and Brenden Hawkins. Also survived by his sister, Mary Ann, spouse, Dick and nephews, Scott, and Barry Marvel, wife Amanda and two children, Laila, and Henrik Marvel.
Please join us in celebrating a life lived to the fullest on Saturday, April 2, 2022, for a memorial service at Bidwell Presbyterian Church, 208 W. 1st Ave., Chico, at 4 PM with a celebration of life to follow at Canyon Oaks Country Club, 999 Yosemite Dr., Chico, for Geno’s “Sunset Salute.” ■
