PUBLIC NOTICE
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER

Este informe contiene informaci6n muy importante sabre su agua potable. Traduzcalo o hable con alguien que lo entienda bien.

The City of Colusa Has Levels of Iron & Manganese  Above the Secondary Maximum Contaminant Level

The City of Colusa is in violation of the Secondary Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for iron and manganese at some of the City’s wells. A secondary standard affects the color and taste of the water delivered to customers. Although this is not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what you should do, what happened, and what we are doing to correct this situation.

The secondary MCL for manganese is 0.05 milligrams per liter (mg/L) measured on an annual average basis. The following is the current annual average manganese concentration for the wells exceeding the manganese standard: Well 02 – 0.07 mg/L, Well 03 – 0.08 mg/L, Well 04 – 0.08 mg/L, Well 06 – 0.21 mg/L.

The secondary MCL for iron is 0.30 mg/L measured on an annual average basis. The following is the current annual average iron concentration for the well(s) exceeding the iron standard: Well 06 – 1.5 mg/L.

What should I do?

You do not need to use an alternative water supply (e.g., bottled water).

• This is not an emergency. If it had been, you would have been notified immediately. However, some people may notice water discoloration, and possibly taste and/or odor issues with their drinking water. These levels of iron and manganese are not considered a health concern.

• If you have other health issues concerning the consumption of this water, you may wish to consult your doctor.

What happened? What is being done?

The City has applied for funding for new wells and treatment. We anticipate resolving the problem by December 2025. The Division of Drinking Water has recently issued to the City a Compliance Order that requires compliance with the iron and manganese standards by December 1, 2025.
