Local cross country teams made their way to Durham High School last Wednesday to race on the flattest course on the Mid-Valley League schedule.
Williams made its debut appearance and had the highest placing finisher in Isabella Santillian, who ran the three-mile varsity girls’ race in a time of 23:39 to claim third place, while Colusa’s Lupita Perez (26:10) was sixth.
The RedHawks won the team competition in the varsity boys’ race where Kevin Sarabia (19:38) was fourth, Cesar Cruz (20:26) was sixth, and Benji Granados (20:46) was eighth.
Also finishing inside the top 10, among the field of 26, was the Yellowjackets’ Ernesto Lemus (20:54), who was ninth.
In the two-mile JV boys’ race, Maxwell’s Massey Baker (14:25) took third and Pierce’s Leo Andrade (14:31) was fifth.
Crossing the line first in the JV girls’ contest was Pierce’s Isabel Alvarado (17:48), while teammates Karina Grajedra (17:59) and Carla Moreno (20:10) were third and fifth, respectively.
There is no MVL meet this week, although some county competitors may make their way to Cottonwood for the West Valley Coed Invitational on Oct. 8, before reconvening in Hamilton City for the fourth conference meet on Oct. 13. ■
