Madalene Suzanne “Sue” Smith passed away Aug. 25, 2021 at her home in Linda, Calif. She was born April 1, 1940 to Robert W. Burke and Kathleen B. Reisner in Evanston, Ill.
Sue moved to Southern California as a teenager. She attended Pius X Catholic High School, graduating in 1957.
She married Jack Smith and had two daughters, Sandra and Kimberly.
After Jack’s unexpected death, Sue moved to Linda in 1967 to raise her daughters, and where she remained for the rest of her life.
Sue enjoyed spending time with her family and knitting with her friends every week. She loved to travel and went on over 45 cruises after she retired. She enjoyed daily visits to Linda’s Soda Bar – her favorite place to eat – and enjoyed attending Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox Baseball games. She was a volunteer with the Marysville Police Department.
Sue is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Rocky) Woods, of Linda; Kimberly (Jesse) Troughton, of Maxwell; grandchildren Amandya, Sarah, Tina, Christopher, and Rick; 17 great-grandchildren, with another due in December; brother Thomas (Debbie) Burke, of Many, La.; nieces Madeline and Tammy; a nephew Tommy; and her constant companion, Tux.
A celebration of life will be held at 12 PM (noon) on Oct. 16, 2021, at the AB Davison Park Pavilion, in Colusa.
